The JourneyRx Diagnostic

Understand what is going wrong—and what to change first.

A focused, principal-led investigation of one agreed process or recurring operational issue. We use Lean principles to follow the work, examine the evidence and identify practical improvements.

What you are commissioning

For a fixed CAD $1,500, JourneyRx investigates a bounded question and gives you a documented basis for the next decision. Examples include why work waits between teams, why a defect recurs or where manual processing limits capacity.

What your team provides

  • A problem and the decision the investigation should support.
  • A process owner and relevant participants for up to 3 interviews.
  • A walkthrough of the work and selected existing records or examples.
  • Agreed process boundaries and access before work begins.

What you receive

  • A concise findings report and current-state process map.
  • Evidence-supported findings, hypotheses and unresolved questions.
  • Prioritised opportunities with indicative benefit and effort.
  • A 30-day action plan with proposed responsibilities and measures.
  • A 60-minute findings meeting.

Findings are delivered in 5 working days after kickoff and agreed access.

A method grounded in Lean principles

Follow the work. Find the waste. Test the explanation.

Start with the value the process needs to deliver to its customer or next team. Observe what actually happens, with the people doing the work. Make waiting, rework, unnecessary steps and unclear handoffs visible before recommending a change.

  1. 1
    Define

Clarify the problem, the value the process should deliver and the decision you need to make.

  2. 2
    Observe

Walk through real examples with the people doing the work and review selected records.

  3. 3
    Map

Map responsibilities, waiting, rework and handoffs against the value the process needs to deliver.

  4. 4
    Diagnose

Use evidence and tools such as 5 Whys to assess explanations and distinguish findings from hypotheses.

  5. 5
    Recommend

Recommend changes by likely benefit and effort, with proposed owners and measures for the next trial.

A useful decision, backed by evidence

The report separates observations from reported experience and hypotheses. Where the evidence does not establish a cause, it specifies the next useful check.

Each priority connects a proposed change with its likely benefit, effort, proposed owner and a way to assess whether it helps. The 30-day plan makes the next steps explicit.

The example shows how a handoff problem could become a small, measurable trial.

Why are work orders waiting?

Question
Where does ownership become unclear between inspection and repair?
Evidence to review
Selected work orders, assignment records and conversations with the team.
Hypothesis to check
Some work orders may wait because no one is responsible for assigning them. Compare this with missing inspection evidence and repair capacity before drawing a conclusion.
Action if supported
Trial assigning an owner at receipt, with a backup when that person is unavailable.
Indicative benefit and effort
Less waiting for assignment; a small change to the intake routine. Confirm feasibility with the process owner.
Proposed owner and measure
The intake lead; track time from receipt to assignment and the number of unassigned work orders. Establish a baseline before the trial.

30-day action plan

  1. Week 1: check the explanation and establish a baseline.
  2. Week 2: agree ownership and run a small trial.
  3. Week 3: compare assignment delays and check exceptions.
  4. Week 4: review the result and decide whether to adopt or adjust.

Clear boundaries before you commit

What is outside the fixed fee?

Implementation, extensive data preparation, additional interviews and broader or multi-process investigations are separately scoped. If the initial question is too broad, we narrow it together or quote a different engagement before starting.

What if our records are incomplete?

We can start with interviews, a walkthrough and selected examples. We record missing evidence and explain its effect on the findings. If access is delayed, we agree a revised delivery date with you.

Will you establish the root cause?

We assess causes against the available evidence. Some issues require further observation or a trial. The report makes that uncertainty explicit and identifies the next investigation or test.

Can we use the plan ourselves?

Yes. Use it with your team or another provider. The diagnostic stands alone; further work is optional.

If you want help making the changes, explore technical consulting and implementation. Ongoing quality assurance and audits can help check whether improvements hold.

Start by talking through the problem.

The first 20-minute conversation is free. We will clarify the business effect and decide whether a focused diagnostic is a useful next step.
